Disclaimer: in no way can you take any of this as the “right” way of doing things. I’m still learning and some of this stuff may even be wrong. figure invention homework assignment
Here is one of the homework assignments from my figure invention class. When I was growing up, I did a lot of coffee shop sketching and I got somewhat comfortable with drawing people in natural standing poses, but when it came to action poses (running, punching, etc) I didn't quite have the hang of it. I realized, I was only comfortable with it because I had drawn from life so much, so I started studying video reference for action poses to build that vocabulary in my mind. These are examples from this video.
