If you want to know more about figure drawing, I would highly recommend you take Kevin Chen, Rick Morris, Charles Hu, or Kirk Shinmoto. My information in this subject is just a poor version of what they can do.

Draw over for Jim Mortensen
drawing tips
I want to try and do something. The best way I've found to learn is to try something and then show it to a teacher. Usually the teacher will draw on top and show me how to do things differently. So, if anyone wants to send in a drawing, I can show you guys how to look at your drawing and apply gesture form overlap and design principles to your drawing. I'll post the examples on the blog here. So, send in some stuff.

What story boards look like
Edit: Because people were asking, this was done in photoshop. When We pitch, we don't make a video file like this. normally we would just click through them on the computer and make the noises and voices ourselves for the pitch.
Here is a small sample I did for my class to show what story boards look like. The editor would take these and time them out and add sound. Here I just have them set to play through with no particular timing.

explore
part of the fun of being an artist is just shutting off your brain and exploring things. Also, being inspired by things. don't worry about composition, structure, storytelling, or anything. Just play and have fun. That is how I came up with this style. I was just playing with brushes and it turned into something. You never know what you might be able to use later by just playing around.

drawing an anime character
I would do this for a few days before I felt comfortable with the character. Then, I would try to leave the character "rougher" I would try to get pretty close to the finish drawing in just 1 or 2 stages. I like more spontaneous drawings, but some times you have to flip it back and forth and be able to draw the character very clean in order to get the spontaneous drawings to look nice.
