Drawing from memory

Dave P did a nice post on observational drawing. I've been doing a lot of memory drawings lately. it's kind of fun. My buddy Anthony rides his bike to work and takes a visual snapshot of what he sees and then draws it later.I was also talking to another friend at work Chris who tries to draw things from his memory for his paintings. if he puts a truck in his painting, it's one he remembers. it's a cool trick to get more mood into your work. here are a few of them.

  1. I've just barely started hearing about this approach. I've gotta start trying it. Your last sketch is a really interesting composition... What was that guy doing on the fridge anyway? Cropping out the head makes me wonder more. Great Stuff!

  4. Thanks for the post. This is a neat idea. I will be curious about how it feels if you start getting better at remembering details with this sort of practice.

  6. I'm going to have to try that.

The last image reminds me of something: My dad, while going to WPI in the sixties, had big parties at his apartment. And there was always this one guy, whose name he never got, who would come to the parties and sit atop my dad's fridge.
