A fun way to start a character design is to just make a shape and turn it into a character. It's like staring at the ceiling stucco and seeing a face in it.

Disclaimer: in no way can you take any of this as the “right” way of doing things. I’m still learning and some of this stuff may even be wrong. I am constantly adapting and changing my approach to drawing. This is just how I think about stuff and I wanted to share it with people. Maybe it can help, maybe not.
awesome :) I always look forward to your posts. I'm going to try this after work tonight!
ReplyDeleteOooooooh I love these concepts. Thanks ^^
ReplyDeleteThat's called pareidolia. Sometimes when i'm drawing a lot of a certain animal I'll start to see versions of it in the most random object like wood floor, tile floor, tree bark etc...
ReplyDeletehehe these are great rad. I love the girl with the big legs up in the air. Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteHey Rad, thanks always for your great post!
ReplyDeleteThis is Alibaba's cave.
The other day you talked about how some artist draw with different lines (one continuous line, redrawing on their work until they find the "right" line..etc).
I was wondering if you would mind taking about shading? How you do it? what type of technique? do you use different shade of grey? or etching? what do your colleagues use?
How it can influence the way you read an image? lead the eye.
thanks
